Hello! This post is going to be a summary of what we did in October. We started off the first Thursday with some research into other robot designs. We specifically looked into RI3D, Robot in 3 Days, videos for inspiration. Next meeting we continued right on into prototyping placement for different structures as seen below. As you can see, we started off with a basic wood and cardboard structure. The drawer slide lift system is in its baby stages, simply two slides put together on a stand. In this baby stage the robot and lift stayed for a few meetings, with intermittent prototyping and design discussions throughout. After a couple more team meetings and work sessions, the end result for the month of October was a chain drive intake system in-the-works, a foundation grabber prototype, and a chassis design with four working wheels. A drawer slide lift system was not far behind!

Our first meeting was on 8/29/19. It was getting to know each other and learning about FTC. We started by getting everyone on the same level. Everyone learned how to hook up a motor with a wheel and make it spin. We went over some engineering topics and watched some instructional videos. We ended by reviewing what we each had done with Kydex, a material we were experimenting with. It was a very laid back meeting and chocolate was involved! It was a fun start to our team.
We talked to our new Mentor, Mr. Parma, who works at NASA as a mechanical engineer. We got to know him and then discussed strategies for moving skystones in the challenge. We also discussed chassis designs, and decided to make it as low as possible while still being able to clear the ramp, as the skybridge is 14 in.
Each team member was given a piece of Kydex to bring home and experiment with. Kydex is a rigid material that bends when heated. It is extremely tough and hard to cut, and useful for final designs for the robot. A hear gun is the most useful, fire will burn the kydex if it gets to hot. The Kydex has two sides, a rough and smooth side. The rough side is easier to score and mark-up, while the smooth side tends to stay smooth. Below are some of the creations the team made, such as a water-proof box with kydex and hot glue and a raven with lights.
